Bob Odenkirk is Developing a Mockumentary Series For Paramount+ Titled GURU NATION
Bob Odenkirk is ready to jump back into his comedy roots with a new series he’s developing for Paramount+ titled Guru Nation, and when sharing his excitement for it, he used a line from one of his Mr. Show sketches, saying, “We are going to blow up the moon!”
Odenkirk is developing the series for Paramount+ with his collaborator David Cross, and he says: “We are going to blow up the moon, exactly. Guru Nation is ridiculous. We’re playing multiple gurus, David and I. We tell the story of some young people as they make their way through these cults.”
That sounds like it could be absolutely hilarious! I love the concept of following the stories of young people who are navigating through a cult.
This series is on top of his recently announced AMC series Straight Man, which is described as “a mid-life crisis tale set at Railton College, told in the first person by William Henry Devereaux, Jr. (Odenkirk), the unlikely chairman of the English department in a badly underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt.”
When talking about that show, Odenkirk said: “Straight Man is a great script; I love it, I can’t wait to play that part. It’s more comical than Better Call Saul. And no guns in it. It’s something I would love to sink my teeth into and do that comedy.”
Odenkirk went on to describe the series as, “it’s like if you married The Office and Better Call Saul.“
