Boba Fett Concept Artist Joe Johnston Says The Bounty Hunter Face Should Have Never Been Shown

Director Joe Johnston, the original concept artist who helped create Boba Fett, is sharing his thoughts on the return of the iconic Star Wars bounty hunter in Lucasfilm’s The Book of Boba Fett. For the most part, fans have loved the first episode of the Disney+ series, but there’s one thing that Johnson would have done differently - he would have never shown Boba Fett’s face. In a recent interview with The New York Times, he explained:

"I never would have shown his face. I would never have had an actor underneath where he takes the helmet off and you see who it is. I think that eliminates a lot of the mystery. Before that helmet comes off, he can be anybody."

That’s one thing that I agree with. I would have much rather had Boba Fett keep the helmet on, and if it was removed, do it in a way that doesn’t reveal his face. It’s one thing I loved about the Judge Dredd movie with Karl Urban and I loved it about The Mandalorian as well.

I don’t think it would have been that hard to keep Boba’s face a mystery, but at the same time we do already know that he’s the unaltered clone of Temuera Morrison’s Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett, so of course, that’s who he’s going to look like. So, I do understand why the creators felt it was ok to take the helmet off and show his face. However, I always did like the mystery behind the helmet.
