Bong Joon Ho Explains Why OKJA Is A Super Pig
On the heels of Okja's release (which I highly suggest you check out) director Bong Joon Ho is talking about the decisions behind Okja and why he made the call to have certain things in the film. For example, why is Okja a "super pig," as opposed to another animal entirely? Ho shares his answer below:
So many animals exist, but there is no animal that we associate with food more than a pig [laughs]. I feel very sorry for pigs for saying that this is what they are supposed to be. When we imagine pigs, we imagine jerky or sausage or ham, but in reality, pigs are very sensitive, clean, lovely and smart. There are even instances where people have domesticated pigs as pets.
The movie is not centered around preachy "eating animals is wrong," but it does make you feel for the fact that the world is so ready to devour what appears to be a very intelligent creature! I won't lie I'm still going to eat meat, but it did make me think twice about the concept of it all. People who saw the film, did you like the movie?
