Bong Joon Ho’s Animated Movie ALLY Voice Cast Includes Bradley Cooper, Ayo Edebiri, and Dave Bautista
Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon Ho is jumping into animation, and he’s bringing an awesome cast with him.
The director of Parasite has officially assembled the voice cast for his first animated feature, Ally, and it includes some seriously great talent. Ayo Edebiri, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Finn Wolfhard, Alex Jayne Go, Rachel House, and Werner Herzog are all set to star in the film.
That’s a pretty wild mix of performers, and honestly, it feels exactly like the kind of unexpected lineup Bong would pull together.
The movie has been in development since 2019 and is being directed by Bong from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Yu.
The story follows Ally, “a curious and endearing piglet squid” living deep in the South Pacific Ocean. The character dreams of one day reaching the surface, seeing the sun, and becoming the star of a wildlife documentary.
Things obviously don’t stay peaceful for long. The official synopsis says: “But when a mysterious aircraft sinks into the ocean, her peaceful world is suddenly thrown into danger. Alongside her loyal — yet unlikely — companions, Ally is thrust into an extraordinary journey that will take her all the way to the surface.”
That setup already sounds like classic Bong Joon Ho territory. Strange creatures, environmental danger, emotional stakes, and a little chaos mixed in for good measure.
It’ll be really interesting to see how his style translates into animation, especially with a story that feels adventurous and emotional while still carrying that weird edge he’s known for.
The project was recently picked up by Neon for North American distribution, reuniting the studio with Bong after their hugely successful collaboration on Parasite. CJ ENM, Penture Invest, and Pathé are co-financing and distributing the film internationally.
Seo Woo-sik is producing the feature, which is expected to be completed during the first half of 2027 before releasing later that same year.
Even without footage, Ally already sounds like one of the most intriguing animated projects on the horizon.
