Bonkers New Trailer for Adult Swim's Horror Anime Miniseries UZUMAKI
Adult Swim has released a new trailer for director Hiroshi Nagahama's anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s classic horror manga Uzumaki. This is a 4-episode miniseries meant to capture Ito’s distinct art style in black and white, and as you’ll see, it looks like an unsettling and bonkers series. It also looks really cool! I love the wildly nightmarish visuals.
The story centers on a high school student named Kirie Goshima, who lives in the cursed town of Kurôzu-cho, on the coast of Japan. “According to Shuichi Saito, the withdrawn boyfriend of teenager Kirie Goshima, their town is haunted not by a person or being but by a pattern: uzumaki, the spiral — the hypnotic secret shape of the world.”
This project has been in development for several years and it’s gone through production delays and then the whole pandemic didn’t help.
The four-episode anime series will also include a score created by Hereditary‘s Colin Stetson. I’m excited about watching this madness!
