Bonkers Retro-Style Red-Band Trailer for THE TOXIC AVENGER

We’re only a few days away from the release of director Macon Blair’s The Toxic Avenger. To celebrate, fans are getting one last piece of gloriously bonkers marketing with a retro-style red-band trailer that feels ripped straight out of 1984.

This trailer comes from Wilson Cleveland, who channeled the spirit of Lloyd Kaufman’s original Troma classic and absolutely nailed the tone. It’s a love letter to the kind of VHS trailer that would’ve melted your brain at a video store rental counter.

The trailer leans directly into the outrageous, low-rent charm that made the original film such a cult powerhouse. It’s the perfect nostalgia bomb to hype the film’s release.

The film stars Peter Dinklage as Winston Gooze, a janitor who suffers a catastrophic toxic accident that transforms him into a deformed yet unstoppable mutant hero. As the Toxic Avenger, he rises from outcast to savior, waging war against corrupt corporations and violent overlords who threaten his son, his friends, and his entire community. In Blair’s own gleefully radioactive vision, “justice is best served radioactive.”

The Toxic Avenger is being released unrated in theaters, meaning every wild, grotesque, and hilarious moment will over-the-top madness. Cineverse is distributing the film, which was produced by Legendary Entertainment, with Troma’s cult DNA running through every frame.

This reimagining of The Toxic Avenger looks like it carries the spirit of late-night video nasties into the big screen era once again. Grab your tickets for August 29, because this is going to be a radioactive ride.
