BOOM! Studios Announces New POWER RANGERS Comic
BOOM! Studios has announced a new Power Rangers comic in the Power Rangers: Unlimited Power era. The new comic is being called Mighty Morphin and is being written by Ryan Parrott with Marco Renna providing the art. It should also be noted that a second series is being teased as well, although we’ve been given no details other than they will both launch in November and feature all-new teams. Fans will notice that the team appears to be the same basic team from the second and third seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, with an interesting addition in the form of a Green Ranger donning what appears to be something similar to the V2 variant.
A new Mighty Morphin team has assembled to take on the deadliest threats to Earth - but who is the All New Green Ranger by their side?
The new Mighty Morphin team is on a collision course with an even deadlier Lord Zedd, who has a new mission and a new motivation - one that will change everything you thought you knew about our heroes! But even if the Mighty Morphin team can find a way to survive Zedd and their mysterious new enemies, they may discover the greatest threat to their future is the shocking secret of Zordon’s past! A new Mighty Morphin epic begins here, perfect for longtime fans and new readers alike.
Talking about his excitement for the new series, Parrott said:
This is a brand new beginning for an all-new Mighty Morphin team featuring characters you know - and an all new Green Ranger. This book is a chance to explore the past, present and future of the team in ways you've never seen before. Coming out of Necessary Evil, there seemed like an opportunity to not only start fresh but focus the story in on our new MIGHTY MORPHIN team like we haven't before.
Renna added:
I'm really happy to have the opportunity to work on Power Rangers. I used to watch the TV show every day and being able to draw these characters is a dream come true. I feel honored to be part of this fantastic team and I am excited to go into this new adventure. I really hope you enjoy my art.
The main cover comes from InHyuk Lee, but a menacing variant will be available from Eleonora Carlini and a variant covered in Rangers will be available from Dan Mora. Now, I noticed some interesting things about this third cover. First, it’s great to see Bulk and Skull in there, but we also see Omega Rangers, Turbo, Mighty Morphin, Zeo, Alien, Megaforce, Lightspeed Rescue, Wild Force, the Phantom Ranger, In Space, Mystic Force, Jungle Fury, Dino Charge, Dai Shi, and the Magna Defender. In addition, though, there are Rita’s Dark Rangers, Zedd’s Dark Rangers, and a fan on Twitter pointed out Crash and the Creeps from Turbo are also in there. There are some others that I don’t quite know like the Lightspeed Rescue Rangers with antennae, but if you know, please let me know in the comments. Also, what do you think this cover is alluding to?
One theory I have is that the recent rumors about the movie featuring time traveling Mighty Morphin Rangers may actually have been about this comic instead. The rumors stated that Zedd would be the main villain (check) and it’s sounding like there may be some element of time travel represented by so many Rangers being present.
