Brad Anderson to Direct a Surfing Road Trip Adventure Film Called IN SEARCH OF CAPTAIN ZERO

Brad Anderson, this director behind films such as Session 9, The Machinist, and Transsiberian, has a new film project he’s developing that sounds interesting. It’s called In Search of Captain Zero, and it seems like a very different kind of film from anything that the filmmaker has made before.

The movie is based on a book of the same name by Allan Weisbecker, and it tells the true-life story of how, in 1996, "the author sold his home and possessions, loaded his dog and surfboards into his truck, “and set off in search of his best friend and long-time surfing companion Christopher, who had vanished into the depths of Central America.”

According to Deadline, casting is underway, and it’s being eyed as “a strong two-hander, with a spring 2020 start date in the works.” Here’s the description of the story from the book, which sounds like a pretty incredible and adventurous journey:

In 1996, Allan Weisbecker sold his home and his possessions, loaded his dog and surfboards into his truck, and set off in search of his long-time surfing companion, Patrick, who had vanished into the depths of Central America. In this rollicking memoir of his quest from Mexico to Costa Rica to unravel the circumstances of Patrick's disappearance, Weisbecker intimately describes the people he befriended, the bandits he evaded, the waves he caught and lost en route to finding his friend.

The project is being developed by Waypoint Entertainment. Anderson is currently finishing up his most recent film, Fracture, a Netflix movie starring Sam Worthington and Lily Rabe.
