Brad Pitt Teaming Up Again With Quentin Tarantino For THE MOVIE CRITIC

Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino will be reuniting for the third time in the director’s final film The Movie Critic. There’s no official word on who Pitt will be playing in the film, but Deadline believes that he will be taking on the role of the title character.

Pitt previously starred in Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which Pitt won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for.

The Movie Critic takes place in California in 1977 “and is based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.” Tarantino explained: “He wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell. His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle [Robert DeNiro’s character in Taxi Driver] might be if he were a film critic.”

He added: “Think about Travis’s diary entries. But the porno rag critic was very, very funny. He was very rude, you know. He cursed. He used racial slurs. But his shit was really funny. He was as rude as hell. He wrote like he was 55 but he was only in his early to mid-30s. He died in his late thirties. It wasn’t clear for a while but now I’ve done some more research and I think it was it was complications due to alcoholism.”

Apparently, Tarantino has done “quite a bit of rewriting” since these details were shared. The report mentions something interesting to think about regarding Pitt’s character Cliff Booth from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. They say he “was as much a cinema fan as he was a stone killer when the stuntman work dried up. If Booth went from stuntman to film critic, that would make a lot of hardcore fans happy; like many of Tarantino’s screen creations, he’s too good a character to let go of.”

That would be a very interesting direction to take things, and there’s no doubt Tarantino fans would flip for that. But, this is just fun fan speculation. I’m really curious to see how this movie turns out.
