Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth Follow-Up Film Gets Official Title THE FURTHER MIS-ADVENTURES OF CLIFF BOOTH
Cliff Booth is heading back to Hollywood, only this time he’s trading 1969 for 1977 and Quentin Tarantino is handing the director’s chair to David Fincher.
Netflix has officially revealed that Brad Pitt’s return as the laid-back stuntman from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will be officially titled The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.
Fincher is directing the film from a screenplay written by Tarantino, making this a pretty damn exciting collision of filmmakers and character.
The movie is also getting a theatrical run before hitting Netflix. The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will premiere in IMAX on November 25 for a two-week engagement, followed by its Netflix streaming debut on December 23.
Brad Pitt is back in the role that earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, but Cliff is returning to a Hollywood that has changed considerably since we last saw him. The story takes place in 1977, eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
That jump forward opens up plenty of possibilities for Cliff. By the late 1970s, the movie business had undergone major changes, the old studio system was long gone, and a new generation of filmmakers and stars had taken over.
Dropping a guy like Cliff Booth into that version of Hollywood feels like a natural way to continue his story without simply trying to recreate what Tarantino already did.
Pitt will be joined by Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Peter Weller. Details surrounding their characters haven't been revealed, so there are still plenty of questions about what kind of trouble Cliff will find himself mixed up in.
Cliff was easily one of the movie's most memorable characters in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. A World War II special ops veteran living in a trailer with his pit bull, he moved through Hollywood with an almost ridiculous level of confidence.
His stunt career had taken a serious hit following an altercation with Bruce Lee, while rumors that he had killed his wife continued to follow him around.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood went on to win two Academy Awards. Pitt took home Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Cliff, while Barbara Ling and Nancy Haigh won Best Production Design.
The really interesting ingredient with The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is seeing what Fincher does with a character created and written by Tarantino.
Fincher and Pitt have made some fantastic movies together, including Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Giving them another project together is exciting enough, but having Tarantino supply the script makes this an especially great reunion.
Cliff Booth is also the kind of character who can easily carry another movie. He has a strange history, questionable morality, a knack for violence, and a personality that makes him entertaining even when he's just driving around Los Angeles.
Moving his story into 1977 gives Fincher and Tarantino a fresh playground while keeping one of the best characters from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood at the center of it.
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth hits IMAX theaters November 25 before arriving on Netflix December 23.
