Brainiac Actor Lars Eidinger Calls His MAN OF TOMORROW Casting a “True Miracle”
The DC Universe is about to get a serious upgrade with Brainiac entering the picture in the Superman follow-up film, Man of Tomorrow, and the actor stepping into that role still can’t quite believe it’s real.
German star Lars Eidinger recently opened up about landing the part, calling the opportunity nothing short of a miracle after years of thinking Hollywood had passed him by.
Speaking with TikTok interviewer DieShowMitChris at the Medienboard Party during the Berlin International Film Festival 2026, Eidinger didn’t hold back about what the moment means to him.
“For me, it's a true miracle. It's truly a miracle that it happened, and I would venture to say that every actor, every actress in Germany, there is a secret hope that one day the call from Hollywood will come.
"I always thought, 'I'm 50 now. Okay, that's it.' Then it suddenly happened, and it all went relatively quickly, didn't it?”
Eidinger, known for his work in Personal Shopper and Sense8, had made peace with the idea that a big Hollywood franchise might never come calling. Then suddenly, he’s cast as one of Superman’s most dangerous foes.
“I really can hardly believe it. But it's not then, like, 'Snap' and you're sitting on a beach in LA. First we'll film the movie. I'm very excited.”
Brainiac is one of the most formidable threats in DC Comics lore, a hyper-intelligent alien AI with a habit of bottling cities and wiping out civilizations. Watching Eidinger bring that calculating menace to life opposite David Corenswet’s Superman is going to be fun.
Man of Tomorrow will once again be directed by James Gunn, continuing his larger DCU narrative. This time around, Superman is forced into an uneasy alliance with his former enemy Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, to stop Brainiac’s catastrophic plans.
The film is also expected to pick up threads from Peacemaker Season 2. That series ended with Luthor teaming up with Rick Flag Sr. to create Salvation, a prison planet designed to contain metahumans. Gunn has already teased that this storyline isn’t a one-off concept.
“People should expect that [this other] dimension is gonna be a part of DCU stories going forward,” Gunn told Rolling Stone. “And not just a tertiary, 'Oh, this is Arkham' – it's a part of the stories. There's an escalating war, obviously, that's going on between the government and metahumans. And this is a part of it.”
So Brainiac isn’t arriving in a vacuum. He’s entering a DCU that’s already simmering with tension between governments and super-powered beings. That larger conflict could give Brainiac’s cold logic and superiority complex an even sharper edge.
For Eidinger, though, this is more than a major franchise role. It’s proof that doors can open when you least expect them.
Man of Tomorrow flies into theaters on July 9, 2027.
