Bran's Ending in GAME OF THRONES Came From George R.R. Martin
While many fans seemed to enjoy the season finale of HBO’s Game of Thrones, a lot of fans had a lot of issues with it as well. One of the plot story elements that I’ve seen fans complain about is how Bran Stark’s story arc concluded with him becoming king.
That choice seemed to come from out of nowhere. But, during an interview with Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who played Bran on the series, that end for the character came from A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin. Apparently that was his original plan all along.
After showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss realized the HBO series was going end before the books were finished, they met with Martin to talk about the plan he had laid out for the ending of his book series. We now know two things that Martin revealed to them during that meeting and one of them included Bran becoming king.
“David and Dan told me there were two things George R.R. Martin had planned for Bran, and that was the Hodor revelation, and that he would be king. So that’s pretty special to be directly involved in something that is part of George’s vision. It was a really nice way to wrap it up.”
Here’s the thing, Martin has two very long books that he’s writing to properly set up that ending if that is something that he still plans on pursuing. Benioff and Weiss didn’t really use the opportunity they had to properly set that up for Bran in the series.
I can’t wait for Martin to finish his final two books so that we can see how the real ending of the story plays out!
