BREATH OF THE WILD is Getting a Sequel, SMASH DLC Announced, THE WITCHER III on Switch and Everything Else from Nintendo's E3
I had been waiting for Nintendo’s E3 Direct for the last couple of weeks. I was not disappointed! We were given looks at the next DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, we got better looks at several other games including ones I always forget about even though they always look awesome like Daemon X Machina, a better look at Link’s Awakening, and we got a new look at Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I would be doing a disservice to not mention the best part of the Direct though, the ultimate trailer was a teaser for a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That’s right, it’s a SEQUEL! We don’t get direct sequels in a Zelda game very often. Here’s the full list of games showcased today along with some small notes:
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield
Outside of a gameplay demo, the big deal was the reveal of the Water-type Gym Leader Nessa. When can we learn the final forms of the starters!?
Releases on November 15
Luigi’s Mansion 3
This looks like a lot of fun and thanks to Professor E. Gadd, you can now use Gooigi to help overcome obstacles and play cooperatively.
Releases in 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
I am beyond excited for this launch. I played it on the GameBoy and loved it. I really adore the art style for it too. A new feature will be included called Chambers which will let you kinda create a custom dungeon for yourself to complete objectives and get items. There’s a new Link amiibo launching as well.
Releases on September 20
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Fans of Animal Crossing have been waiting for this one for a long time. Unfortunately, the game was postponed and will no longer launch in 2019.
Releases on March 20, 2020
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Two new DLC fighters were announced and fans are going nuts. The first one was Hero from the Dragon Quest series and fans will notice that you can choose between four different protagonists from the series depending on which is your favorite. The second was the even more highly anticipated Banjo-Kazooie. I have friends who lost their minds when that was confirmed. I know it’s been rumored for some time and it looks like Nintendo’s budding friendship with Xbox is really paying off. Maybe we can get new Banjo-Kazooie games or other Rare games for Switch?
Hero is releasing Summer 2019
Banjo-Kazooie is releasing Fall 2019
MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order
It was revealed that there would be an Expansion Pass that one can purchase that will include DLC after launch that includes content from Fantastic Four, Marvel Knights, and X-Men. No release was given for the DLC.
Releases on July 19
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
This looks like a crazy epic Fire Emblem game. I’m still pretty new to the franchise, but the tension in the trailer is pretty nuts.
Releases on July 26
ASTRAL CHAIN
This game looks so cool! It looks like a great blend of action and puzzles will be involved in the gameplay and I quite enjoy the art style.
Releases on August 30
DAEMON X MACHINA
It’s a beautiful looking mecha game. Why don’t I have this yet?
Releases on September 13
Cadence of Hyrule ~ Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda~
We were finally given a release date for this highly anticipated Zelda spin-off. I still maintain that I will either love or hate this game because of the rhythm mechanic.
Releases on June 13
DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition
Dragon Quest is coming to the Nintendo Switch and adds some new character-specific stories. You’ll also be able to switch between HD and “retro-inspired 16-bit visuals.” Sounds like a great deal for fans of the franchise.
Releases on September 27
DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2
Not much was given on this title.
Demo releases on June 27
Releases on July 12
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition
I was not really expecting the rumor to be true, but it is. CD Projekt Red brought The Witcher 3 to the Nintendo Switch. I’m really interested to see how well it handles.
Releases in 2019
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
I was ready to write this game off when the trailer started. However, I kept watching and I realized that I really wanted this game. You can take Mario and Sonic characters to do awesome sports events like skateboarding and karate!
Releases in November 2019
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics
The upcoming Netflix series is getting a tactical strategy game. It looks great if you’re a fan, but doesn’t seem to offer much to others.
Releases in 2019
TRIALS of MANA
This is a full HD remake of the third game of the Mana series. This game never made it to the United States. I know some people are losing their minds over this.
Releases in Early 2020
Collection of Mana
To help get you excited for Trials of Mana in HD, go back and play all three games in the series including Final Fantasy Adventure, Secret of Mana, and Trials of Mana. You can download them as part of an all-in-one bundle on the Nintendo eShop.

CONTRA ROGUE CORPS
At the beginning of the trailer, I thought this was a Duke Nukem game. This looks just as good as any other Contra game for fans of the series.
Releases on September 24
No More Heroes 3
These games always look like so much fun and I’ve never gotten to play them. You’ll control Travis Touchdown again and it just looks like fun.
Releases in 2020
Empire of Sin
This looks like a 1920s gangster game. It’s not my cup of tea, but some of you out there will probably love it. It’s inspired by noir and has you working the underbelly of organized crime in Chicago in the 20s.
Releases in Spring 2020.
Panzer Dragoon: Remake
I’ll be honest, this game looked really boring to me, but I might be wrong and not know what I’m talking about. It looks like you right a dragon and you shoot things with a gun.
Releases in Winter 2019/2020
Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6
This ad was ridiculous because it showcased two young adults going into a creepy abandoned house to play these games. Why would you do that? They’re scary enough in your living room with the lights turned off!
Release in Fall 2019
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
This one was briefly glanced over, but Activision has confirmed that the HD collection of three games will be coming to Nintendo Switch and pre-orders are available at your favorite retailers for about $40.
Releases on September 3
There was one game that many were hoping for that didn’t show up: Metroid Prime 4. I was a little sad to see it wasn’t here, but you have to remember that the game did start over completely earlier this year, so seeing anything would’ve really been a stretch. Maybe later this year we’ll get an update on that one though. You can watch the full direct and select trailers below.
