Brian Cox Says Joaquin Phoenix's Performance in NAPOLEON Is "Truly Terrible" and "Appalling"
Brian Cox is not of fan of Joaquin Phoenix's performance as Napolean in Ridley Scott’s historical epic and during a recent interview with The Standard, he unleashed his unfiltered thoughts.
He said, “It’s terrible. A truly terrible performance by Joaquin Phoenix. It really is appalling. I don’t know what he was thinking. I think it’s totally his fault and I don’t think Ridley Scott helps him. I would have played it a lot better than Joaquin Phoenix, I tell you that. You can say it’s good drama. No — it’s lies.”
Cox then joked about Phoenix’s name, saying: “I think he’s well named. Joaquin … wackeen … wacky. It’s a sort of wacky performance.”
The actor then jumped onto Mel Gibson’s Braveheart, not his performance, but the story and how it was not historically accurate in any way.
Cox said: “Mel Gibson was wonderful but it’s a load of lies. He never impregnated the French princess. It is a bollocks [sic] that film.” The actor just isn’t happy with how Hollywood is sacrificing historical accuracy for the sake of blockbuster filmmaking.
He didn’t stop there, as he went on to blast method acting saying: “Oh no that’s all bollocks. It’s a kind of nonsense. We’re transmitters. That’s what we are as actors. We transmit energy.”
He added: “You have to do your homework. That’s the delight of it, the information you get because you’re reading everything about Churchill and you’re building up a picture of who this person was.”
Cox just doesn’t seem to care what he says these days! He’s just letting his true thoughts fly out of his mouth and the rest of us get to sit back and enjoy the show.
