Brian K. Vaughn’s Sci-Fi Comic EX MACHINA is getting a Film Adaptation

Just to make this clear, this has nothing to do with Alex Garland’s sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. While it shares the same title, this new film project is an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan’s comic book series.

The film is set up at Legendary Pictures and will be titled The Great Machine. It’s being written by Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel, who wrote the recent Kristen Stewart-starring project, Seberg.

Vaughan created the comic, which debuted in 2004, with artist Tony Harris. The story centered on Mitchell Hundred, “a former superhero who becomes the mayor of New York City after 9/11. Hundred had the power to talk to mechanical devices but the comic was concerned less about superheroics than issues of government and political leadership. Great Machine was the character's superhero name.”

The plot for the feature film will revolve around Hundred “dealing with a threatened political career when the source of his powers returns to claim its debt.”

I never got around to reading the comic book, but it sounds like it tells an interesting story that will make for a solid film.
