Brian Michael Bendis Shares Fun Story of How Marvel's SECRET INVASION Got Its Title
In celebration of Marvel Comics’ Secret Invasion, Marvel talked to the creative team that brought this epic story arc to life and put together an oral history. Secret Invasion is now a series on Disney+, but it’s really not following anything from the comics, which tells a far superior story. Secret Invasion is an ok show, but it could be so much better!
During the interview, Secret Invasion writer Brian Michael Bendis revealed that the original title for Secret Invasion was Skrulls! and he explained how Secret Invasion just kind of ended up being the title. He said:
"At one point, it was just called Skrulls! with an exclamation mark with a 1950s logo, like an Aliens!, like a real B-movie alien invasion kind of thing, because we were like, 'Let's not be cheeky about it. Just say what it is,' and the idea of Secret Invasion, of what it is—it's a secret invasion—and then that was the temp name: well, it's a secret invasion, we'll just call it that for now... And then it stuck, and now it's a logo, and now it's on Disney+. It's the strangest feeling in the world when you see something that—like, it was the best title, but it kind of just became the title. It wasn't selected. It just became the title, and that's very weird… I was the only one who wanted to call it Skrulls!, by the way."
Secret Invasion definitely works and it still has that B-movie alien invasion vibe, but I also liked the original title, Skrulls! Regardless, the Secret Invasion comic book series ended up being awesome.
