Brides of Dracula Series Coming to NBC by Greg Berlanti

Comic book and TV writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Marvel Knights, The Stand, Glee) and TV producer Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash) have teamed up to develop a gothic-style TV drama based on the three brides of Dracula. It imagines what would have become of the brides had they not been killed by Van Helsing.

The series will be called Brides, and it's set up at NBC. The story is set in New York City. The series is described as “a sexy reimagining of Dracula as a family drama with a trio of strong, diverse female leads, a show about empowered women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their non-traditional family.”

The Brides of Dracula were originally introduced in Bram Stoker’s classic novel, and they are a staple in the Dracula mythology. They have shown up in almost every movie based on Dracula, and in 1960 they even got a film of their own called Brides of Dracula, which starred Peter Cushing (Star Wars).

As a long time fan of Stoker’s Dracula and the films and mythology surrounding the vampire, I’m actually looking forward to seeing what comes of this. The talent involved with its initial development is definitely promising.
