Bring the Cinema Experience home with Poptheatr
It’s hard as an adult to get to the movie theater. Our lives are busier than ever these days between working for ridiculously long hours, being social, being with our families, and finding time to do school. Not to mention if you find time to go out it’s getting crazy how much it costs to go to the movies. Ticket prices keep rising and they gouge you for snacks if you want any, not to mention the cost of a babysitter if you have kids. It’s easy for a movie to run you $50 depending on where you live. That is nuts. Enter Poptheatr.
Poptheatr wants to give you the movie theater experience wherever you go. It blocks out light, has a place for you to secure a phone or tablet for the screen, comes with a speaker/battery pack, Bluetooth remote, and is portable. If you like going to the movies alone, this could be an ideal solution for you. You only need to pledge $54 to get one while in the Kickstarter stage. Afterwards, it will retail for $119 so that’s a big saving.
I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t like this. I don’t like going to the movies alone. I like going with people. I like being able to talk to people as soon as we get out of the theater. Heck, I like whispering little one-liners to my wife while watching the movie. Unfortunately, the Poptheatr only seems to fit one person. Not to mention it looks like it would be hard to eat or drink anything while watching your show. I am a big snacking kind of guy. I love having some kind of snack while I watch stuff. I think Poptheatr is a cool idea, but I don’t think it’ll actually provide a cinema-like experience. What it will do is let you lie down (I know plenty of people who would automatically fall asleep in this thing) and watch a movie without your arms getting sore. If you’re using your phone to watch things, that’s going to be a small screen still. If you don’t like snacks, are able to stay awake while lying down in a dark space, don’t have claustrophobia, and like watching movies alone, this could be great for you.
