Broadway's Original HAMILTON Cast Reunited for Behind-the-Scenes Documentary to Premiere With Filmed Stage Release
Fans are counting down the days this week until we get to see Hamilton premiere on Disney+, just in time for Independence Day, when we celebrate our nation. But fans are in for a double treat, as we are also going to be able to watch a behind-the-scenes documentary that will reunite the original cast, as they talk about the show’s origins and legacy.
Award-winning journalist Kelley L. Carter is hosting the virtual roundtable reunion that includes Hamilton director Thomas Kail and nine of the original Broadway cast members, including creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr., Christopher Jackson, Phillipa Soo, and Renée Elise Goldsberry.
Entertainment Weekly reports the team “will explore a wide range of topics, from the origin story of Hamilton; the Pulitzer-Prize winning musical's earliest stages of development; their special connection to the show's story, characters, imagery, and music; the show's significance as a ground-breaking pop culture phenomenon; and what the Hamilton story means in the context of ongoing conversations about systemic racism and social injustice. They'll also discuss the origins of and their hopes for the filmed version of the show.”
Carter said of the doc:
"The cast of Hamilton didn’t come to play. They are accomplished performers who created genre-shifting art, but they also understand this unprecedented time in history and why their voices matter. This special isn’t just about one of the most important pieces of work to ever play on Broadway. This is about how art inspires activation. And, well, how activation inspires great art."
Hamilton In-Depth with Kelley Carter premieres alongside Hamilton the musical on July 3 on Disney+. Will you be tuning in?
