Bruce Campbell Confirms EVIL DEAD Animated Series Is in Development and He'll Play Ash
Bruce Campbell previously talked about an Evil Dead animated series that would continue the adventures of Ash Williams following the events of Ash Vs. Evil Dead.
At the time, he said the project was something that they were only talking about. It was something that might possibly happen. But now, Campbell has confirmed that the project is in development. He also said he’ll provide the voice of the character Ash.
Campbell told Entertainment Weekly: "We are developing an animated version, like a series. I'll do that. I'll do Ash's voice all day long because my voice hasn't aged as much as I have."
I love the idea of an Evil Dead series, and I could see it being completely bonkers! They could really go above and beyond anything they’ve done with the live-action projects. I’m excited to see how this turns out!
Campbell also teased the two movies that are currently in development, saying: "The future is two more damn movies. We've got two new fabulous directors that have two new scripts in the shoot, and we think we've suckered a studio into coughing up the dough for both, since they seem to still make money."
He continued: "The funny thing is, the Evil Dead movies, the last one made $140 million, and the Evil Dead movies don't usually make that much money ... They're cheap, so they don't have to make that much -- but now that they're making real money, it's kinda hard to look away.
“And we want to do it -- the last one was 10 years ago, Fede [Álvarez's reboot] was 2013! So we want to get a little more of a pipeline for folks who still follow it, who want to see it. They want to see it in the new incarnation!"
The two Evil Dead films in development are being directed by Francis Galluppi (The Last Stop in Yuma County) and Sébastien Vaniček and they are both being produced by Campbell and Sam Raimi. There are no details on these films, but both directors are hoping to tell terrifying Evil Dead tales.
Campbell once talked about the future of the franchise, saying: "We're going to do them probably more like every two to three years now, rather than every 10 years. But, hey, we've seen with Star Wars – you don't want to wear people out. Keep them guessing! We never wore out our welcome with Evil Dead because we never choked them."
He also said that Raimi and his brother were writing an Evil Dead bible for other filmmakers to use, saying: “It’s also the first time Sam is working with his brother Ivan to create an overall Bible that will give future writers and directors an idea of where this thing should go next to potentially tie in some of these stories.
“So I think it’s going to get a little more tied in as the years go by. But because it’s all about the books. It could be a book in the past, a book in the future. It’s yet to be determined.”
