Bruce Campbell Confirms Sam Raimi Has Picked a Director For a New EVIL DEAD Film and That Another Idiot Will Try To Stop Evil
A couple of weeks ago director Sam Raimi revealed that a new Evil Dead movie was in development and that they had a few ideas for it.
One idea would have continued the story of Ash if Bruce Campbell decided to return, and then another idea if Campbell sticks with his retirement. They also had an idea for director Fede Alverez’s film to continue that storyline if he was able to return, and another idea if he didn’t.
Well, Campbell has confirmed that they are taking the Evil Dead franchise in a whole new direction. During the Rock and Shock convention, Campbell revealed that Raimi has picked a new director that will offer a new take on the mythology. He also made it clear that he will not return to the franchise and that there will be another idiot introduced to try and stop evil:
“It’s okay to pass it along to another idiot to try and stop evil from destroying the world. One idiot tried—he did pretty good. It’s time to let other innocent people with no skills try to save the world. And there’s more stories to tell.
“So we think we have a cool premise. We have a new filmmaker that Sam Raimi has hand-chosen. So he’s very involved in it. We’ll be involved in the story, and we’ll try and make sure the actors don’t completely suck. And then we’re gonna make another one, yeah. There’s lots of stories…creepy books…lots of people to torment.”
Well, it’ll be interesting to see what this new story will be! As long as Raimi and Campbell are involved with the story development, I’m in. Yeah, it’s sad that we’ll never see Campbell in the role of Ash again, but I’ll be looking forward to seeing the new direction they take the franchise in. I’m also curious to know who was hired to direct the film.
You can watch Campbell hilariously share all this information in the video below:
