Bruce Campbell Says a New EVIL DEAD Movie Could Shoot Later This Year and There are More Films in The Works

There’s been a lot of talk about the Evil Dead franchise recently and that’s because there’s a new movie in development! Both Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell have confirmed this.

After weighing their options on the best way to proceed with the franchise, Raimi will be producing the next film and he’s “working with a young filmmaker who is writing a new Evil Dead story that he will direct.”

Campbell will not be reprising his role as Ash in this movie. The movie will focus on a whole new character who will find him or herself facing off with evil. Campbell is now teasing multiple Evil Dead films, one of which could shoot later this year!

Campbell shared the news this past weekend at Fan Expo Vancouver:

“We’re producing more Evil Dead movies. Maybe one later this year. Sam Raimi’s handpicked the next guy to make another creepy Evil Dead film. It just won’t have Ash. There are more stories to tell.”

When previously talking about passing the franchise on to a new character, Campbell said:

“It’s okay to pass it along to another idiot to try and stop evil from destroying the world. One idiot tried—he did pretty good. It’s time to let other innocent people with no skills try to save the world. And there’s more stories to tell.

“So we think we have a cool premise. We have a new filmmaker that Sam Raimi has hand-chosen. So he’s very involved in it. We’ll be involved in the story, and we’ll try and make sure the actors don’t completely suck. And then we’re gonna make another one, yeah. There’s lots of stories…creepy books…lots of people to torment.”

As a longtime fan of this franchise, I can’t help but be excited to see where they take it next, even if Ash isn’t going to be a part of the story. As long as the story they tell is good and the new character is likable, then I think fans will support it. At least the original creative team is all involved!
