Bruce Campbell Wants a Role in TWILIGHT OF THE MALLRATS and Kevin Smith Has the Perfect Part for Him
When Bruce Campbell got word that Kevin Smith was still working on his Mallrats sequel, which is titled Twilight of the Mallrats, he immediately reached out to Smith on Twitter to say that he wants in. He was even willing to take a small role as a milkman. But, when Smith replied, he had a much better role in mind for him! He said:
"The role I have for you in Twilight of the Mallrats is the part you were born to play: [Bruce Campbell] himself! In a world where Brodie’s biggest hero [Stan Lee] is gone (but never forgotten), he’s gonna need all his other heroes. And Brodie loooooves Evil Dead 2 & Ash!"
Yep, that seems like it would work out just fine and there’s no doubt that the fans would flip about Campbell appearing in the movie! Campbell has yet to respond, but if they are both serious, then it looks like we can expect to see Campbell show up in Twilight of the Mallrats!
When previously talking about the sequel and what the story would entail, Smith said:
“It’s 20 years later and the mall is on the brink of shutting down. Just like the mall everywhere it’s kind of on the way out…So it takes place as the mall is about to close and Brody Bruce, the Jason Lee character, is throwing his… he’s got a comic book store, Body Bruce’s Secret Stash, which we had introduced in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. He has moved it into the mall and he’s throwing this Mallathon Comic Con to try to keep the mall alive. He’s like the people in Back to the Future – ‘Save the clock tower’ – he’s trying to save the mall and shit… The whole place finally has a crowd in it for the first time in years and the movie is stolen from Die Hard so in the middle of the Comic Con terrorists take over the mall and so originally the title of the script was Mallrats 2: Die Hard in a Mall. I don’t think Fox is going to let us call it that so we might have to call it something else, but Brody teams up with everyone you remember and love from this movie, 18 characters from this movie come back in Mallrats 2 and then we add another generation as well, their kids as well.”
I loved Mallrats when it was first released, so I’m happy to see that Smith isn’t giving up on the sequel! Hopefully, he gets to make the movie this year!
Smith is hoping to get the whole gang back together with Jason Lee, Shannen Doherty, Ethan Suplee, Jeremy London, Renee Humphry, Claire Forlani, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Mewes, Michael Rooker, Sven-Ole Thorsen, and even Ben Affleck.
What do you think about Smith idea for bring Campbell into the sequel?
