Bruce Willis Is Retiring From Acting After Being Diagnosed with Aphasia

After 42 years of being an actor and starring in some amazing and classic action films over the course of his career, Bruce Willis is retiring from acting. This is surprising news that I didn’t see coming, but it’s true and the announcement came from Willis’ family.

The reason for his retirement is that he has been diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder caused by brain damage that affects a person’s ability to communicate. Willis’ family members shared a statement to the social media saying:

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.

“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.
As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”

That’s rough news to hear. I’m a huge fan of Willis and a lot of the films that he’s made and it sucks to hear that he’s done making movies.

Over the past few years, he’s made a lot of those low-budget action thrillers that fans like myself have been giving him a hard time about. I kinda feel bad about that now, but personally, I just thought he could and should be making better films.

We never know what going on in the background of people’s lives and maybe Willis knew this was coming and he was just taking every job he could in preparation for knowing that he would have to retire soon. I don’t know, that’s just speculation.

Regardless, I’m actually pretty bummed out by the news that Willis is retiring, especially under these circumstances. We wish Willis and his family the best as they move forward and “live it up.”
