Bruce Willis Fights to Get His Dog Back in Trailer For ONCE UPON A TIME IN VENICE
Hey, remember John Wick and how good of a movie it was? Remember what made it good? I'll give you a hint, it wasn't the dog. But the filmmakers of a new film called Once Upon a Time in Venice would have you believe that the new big thing in Hollywood is action stars who love dogs. And sadly the action star they got is one of my favorites... Bruce Willis.
Am I sad that he's in this? No, because I feel like he should be getting work. I'm more disappointed that he's deciding to involve himself in this rather than more quality productions. The trailer just seems like he's just barely making it through this movie. Remember in Die Hard, how angry and animated he was? Well, we don't see that in the trailer for this film. It's like Clerks meets John Wick. Bruce Willis's dog is kidnapped, and he does a bunch of wacky stuff grudgingly to get the dog back.
While the idea could actually be quite funny, it just looks like Willis isn't having fun with the role. It could be that they just showed the worst parts, in which case, come on trailer editor, do a better job. It's just a lot of sloppy cutting. Even the sound seems poorly done. The other thing is that the music is so in your face which is the exact opposite of everything the actors are giving. Then at the end of the trailer, they show him playing catch with the dog, which is just kinda a weird shot to mix in with everything else. I'm not sure if it's brilliant or just poorly thought out.
Steve Ford (Bruce Willis) is a down but not out L.A based Private Investigator whose professional and personal worlds collide after his loving pet Buddy is stolen by a notorious gang. A series of crazy circumstances find him doing the gang’s bidding, while being chased by two vengeful Samoan brothers, a loan shark’s goons, and a few other shady characters. They say a dog is a man’s best friend, and Steve shows how far a man will go to be reunited with him.
Willis is joined by a fantastic cast, which gives me hope for everything else. That cast includes Jason Momoa, John Goodman, Thomas Middleditch and Famke Janssen.
Once Upon a Time in Venice hits theaters on June 16th.
