Bryan Callen and Marc Maron Join Joaquin Phoenix in JOKER
Two new actors have joined the cast of director Todd Phillips' Joker. The Hangover's Bryan Callen confirmed that he was cast in the film while he was a guest on The Fighter & The Kid podcast. He explains that he'll be playing an aging dancer/stripper:
"I’m doing the Joker. I was offered a part. That’ll be fun, but i think it’s only a couple days. Play an aging dancer, stripper. I don’t want to go into the details. I can’t go into the details, but just know it’s gonna be good. And I hope my psoriasis is flaring cause that’ll be very funny. I’ll be in a Speed-O, I can’t wait. I have some ideas for it."
Then Variety is reporting that Glow actor Marc Maron is in talks to join the Joker origin film. According to the report, "Maron would be portraying an agent on Robert De Niro’s talk show who plays a part in booking Phoenix’s character, and eventually causing him to go mad and become the Clown Prince of Crime."
The new actors will also join Frances Conroy, who will play the Joker's mother and Zazie Beetz would play a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the Clown Prince of Crime.
The studio describes the story as being an "exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale."
Joker is "meant to be different from other comic book superhero movies". The story is also said to "delve into what it took for the Joker to become a mastermind criminal" and rumor has it that the film story was inspired by The Killing Joke and that it revolves around a failed comedian who ends up becoming a criminal.
Phillips will co-write and direct the film which is set to be released on October 4th, 2019. For some additional details on the story click here.
