Bryan Singer Compares X-MEN: APOCALYPSE to GAME OF THRONES

Actress Sophie Turner isn't the only thing X-Men: Apocalypse has in common with Game of Thrones, according to director Bryan Singer. In a new interview with Yahoo UK, Singer draws a direct connection between the two properties:

“I’m a huge ‘Game Of Thrones’ fan. There’s a crossover between ‘X-Men’ and ‘Game Of Thrones’, they’re both about a younger generation finding their powers, finding out who they are, and what their place in the world is. I like how the show’s about different groups of people moving towards a common goal. They don’t even know if that’s the right goal, who wants to sit on that uncomfortable throne? I don’t! Everyone in King’s Landing is miserable. But for some reason they want that power.”

I've never thought about the similarities between those two properties before — probably because it's not something that lends itself well to a direct comparison — but I suppose Singer is right about them both being stories that feature younger generations finding their place in the world.

There's a bunch more to read in the full interview, but I'll leave you with a quote from writer Simon Kinberg, who chipped in with a brief description that I'm sure many of you will appreciate:

“There’s a lot more destruction and loss in this film that we’ve had in the previous movies. We weren’t afraid to go to darker, heavier places than we’ve done in these films before.”

X-Men: Apocalypse arrives in theaters on May 19th, 2016.
