Bryce Dallas Howard Has Talked to Dave Filoni About Directing a Mace Windu STAR WARS Movie
Bryce Dallas Howard has enjoyed her time playing in the Star Wars sandbox as a director, and after proving her chops behind the camera on several well-received episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, she’s ready for a big Star Wars movie.
In a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Howard revealed that not only is she down to direct a Star Wars feature, she already has a dream project in mind, and it involves Samuel L. Jackson’s Mace Windu.
When asked if she’s ever put herself out there to direct a Star Wars movie, Howard said: “I would always say yes.” She went on to share her excitement for what is coming, saying, “I’m excited to see The Mandalorian & Grogu with Jon Favreau. I got to visit the set. It’s awesome. It’s gonna be fantastic.”
She added that watching Favreau transform the show into “a theatrical experience” is “thrilling.”
The conversation then shifted to actors she’d love to work with and Howard listed Chris Pratt, but then lit up when she brought up Samuel L. Jackson. “Sam Jackson has been incredibly supportive of me and has told me many times that he would act in something that I directed.”
She went on to say that she’s already talked to Lucasfilm about a Mace Windu project, saying: “I, like, went straight to Dave Filoni and I was like, so let’s just talk about Mace Windu and where he is. We just talk about this because is he dead, is he?”
I love that she has actually talked to Filoni about this and it would be awesome if something actually came of it because fans would love to see the return of Mace Windu!
Jackson has been very vocal about wanting to return as Mace Windu as well, despite his character’s presumed death in Revenge of the Sith. In an interview earlier this year, Jackson said flat-out: “HE’S NOT DEAD!!!” He also made it clear he’s more than willing to reprise the role.
So now we have a respected director with Star Wars experience, a legendary actor itching to come back, and a fan base that would absolutely show up to see it happen.
