BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Actress Michelle Trachtenberg Passes Away at 39 Years Old

Actress Michelle Trachtenberg passed away on Wednesday at the age of 39, which is too damn young. Best known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harriet the Spy, Ice Princess, and Gossip Girl, Trachtenberg had a strong acting career.

According to the NYPD, officers responded to a 911 call just after 8 a.m. at a luxury residential tower in midtown Manhattan, where they found Trachtenberg unconscious and unresponsive.

Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. No foul play is suspected, and the New York Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause of death. ABC News reports that her mother discovered her and called authorities. Sources also indicate that Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant.

Born on October 11, 1985, in New York City, Trachtenberg was a natural in front of the camera. By the age of 3, she was already booking commercials, and before long, she secured a recurring role as Lily Montgomery on All My Children.

Nickelodeon audiences will remember her as Nona on The Adventures of Pete & Pete, where she became a fan favorite. Her career took a major leap in 1996 when she starred in Harriet the Spy, bringing Louise Fitzhugh’s beloved children’s book character to life. She also earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for hosting the Discovery series Truth or Scare.

One of Trachtenberg’s more popular roles was Dawn Summers, Buffy’s younger sister in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She was introduced in the show’s fifth season in 2000, she became a central figure in the show’s mythology.

Her career continued with the raunchy comedy EuroTrip in 2004, where she showcased a different side of her talent, and the following year, she led Disney’s Ice Princess as a brainy teen who discovers a love for figure skating.

In 2008, she played Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl, a role she would return to play multiple times including in the 2023 sequel series.

She worked steadily in television and film throughout her career, making guest appearances on House, Weeds, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Sleepy Hollow, among others. She also found a home in voice work, contributing to Robot Chicken and other animated projects.
