BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER's Amber Benson to Star in The Occult Thriller THE NIGHTMARE GALLERY

Amber Benson, who is best known for playing Tara in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, is set to star in a new film called The Nightmare Gallery. It's a film project that seems right up her alley, as it's a thriller that deals with the occult.

The film tells the story of "an anthropology professor (Benson) as she investigates the sudden, suspicious disappearance of her star pupil. A mysterious collection of occult artifacts leads her on a nightmarish, Da Vinci Code-esque journey toward an unspeakable truth that will threaten her career, her marriage, and her sanity."

Benson will be joined by three-time Tony-nominated actor Kevin Chamberlin (Road to Perdition, Disney’s Jessie), who will take on the role of as a psychiatrist who "assists in the professor’s investigation." The film also stars Mat Devine, former frontman of the rock band, Kill Hannah.

Executive producer Charles Hillard offered the statement regarding the movie:

“What really excites us about this film is that we believe it achieves that very rare balance of creating an entertaining movie with an enduring message, but that it also has clearly defined target audiences and commercial value.”

The film is being directed by Gene Blalock, and he offered the following information:

“One of the driving forces behind this film is the realization that very few movies, particularly in the horror genre, feature LGBTQ characters and treat them like normal people, rather than caricatures. So while the anthropology professor is married to another woman, her sexual orientation doesn’t tokenize her or diminish the nuance of her characterization. Our intention with this film is to craft an outstanding horror film in its own right, but also one that would promote the idea that genre films can be about someone other than straight, white men and women.”

The Nightmare Gallery sounds interesting enough for me to want to check out. It's slated to begin principal photography this summer. Does it sound like a movie that you'd be interested in checking out?
