Blumhouse is Considering Making New SCREAM and HELLRAISER Movies
Blumhouse has been doing some great things with the horror franchise. They’ve been producing some fun horror films that have consisted of a good mix of original content and existing franchises.
Now they are looking at possibly getting into the Scream and Hellraiser business. During a recent interview with CinemaBlend, producer Jason Blum confirmed that there have been some talks about taking on these two classic franchises:
“Yes, we definitely have [discussed it]. We're looking - there's nothing happening with either one of those things - but we're definitely looking at it, and it's definitely something I'd be open to.”
I’m a big fan of the Scream franchise and I’d be really curious to see how they would handle that. I’d be much more interested in seeing a sequel set in the same universe and timeline as the original films than I would a complete reboot.
I’m not saying that they have to bring back and focus on Sidney Prescott, I’m just saying that the legend of Sidney should exist in any future films.
As for Hellraiser, that film franchise is so crazy and all over the place that they could pretty much do whatever they wanted with it when reviving it. I liked the first film, but never really got into any of the first films. Maybe they could treat that franchise the same way they treated Halloween and make a direct sequel to the original film as if none of the other sequels happened. However, I do know a lot of people that liked the sequels.
Regardless, it would be interesting to see how Blumhouse would handle these franchises if they ended up reviving them. I’d like to think that they would do the right things for these franchises if they did decide to take them on.
How would you like to see the Scream and Hellraiser franchises handled if they were revived?
