BUZZKILL Trailer Turns Getting Drunk Into the Ultimate Slasher Survival Strategy
Most slasher movies tell you to stay alert, keep your head clear, and definitely don’t get hammered while a killer is hunting you. Buzzkill has a much different survival plan: keep the vodka sodas coming.
The new Tubi Original slasher is part of this year’s Terror on Tubi celebration, and it premieres September 25. The official trailer has arrived, introducing a horror comedy where getting drunk might actually be the smartest thing the final girl can do.
The movie follows a group of sorority sisters trapped with a killer looking for revenge. Nora, the resident party girl, discovers that her alcohol-fueled memories contain clues that could help her figure out who is murdering her friends. The catch is that she apparently needs to keep drinking to access them.
The official synopsis reads: “When a group of sorority sisters finds themselves trapped with a vengeful killer, party-girl Nora knows that the drunker she gets, the more her tipsy memories start revealing clues about who’s murdering her friends. But she’d better hurry, or her next vodka soda might be her last.”
That gives Buzzkill a fun twist on the familiar final girl formula. Instead of needing to sober up and make smart decisions, Nora has to get increasingly wasted while trying to piece together a murder mystery and avoid becoming the killer’s next victim.
Siena Agudong (Carrie) stars as Nora, with Brec Bassinger (Final Destination Bloodlines) and Aliyah’s Interlude (English Teacher) joining her in the cast.
The Tubi Original was written by Suzanne Keilly (Slumber Party Massacre) and directed by Jem Garrard (R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead). Garrard explained what attracted her to Keilly’s take on the slasher genre and why Nora makes for such an entertaining lead:
“I loved Suzanne’s script and was excited by her spin on the slasher genre. Nora isn’t your traditional final girl. She screws up constantly and is spectacularly ill-equipped for what’s happening around her, but we never stop rooting for her.
“Siena [Agudong] has incredible comic instincts and brings so much heart to Nora. I couldn’t have asked for a better ensemble. Everyone brought such a distinct energy to their character, and I’m excited for audiences to meet this lovable, dysfunctional sorority.”
Buzzkill premieres September 25 on Tubi. Check out the trailer and see if Nora can solve the murders before she reaches last call.
