C-3PO Actor Anthony Daniels Compares the STAR WARS Level of Secrecy to the Kremlin, Saying It's "Beyond Ludacris"

C-3PO is a staple of the Star Wars franchise. The lovable droid, played by Anthony Daniels, is always happily received by fans of the films and shows, but it hasn’t been an easy road for the actor. Known for always speaking his mind, Daniels has gotten himself into several scuffles with fans after badmouthing his co-star, Kenny Baker, who played R2-D2 in the films, and even complaining about the ever-changing shooting schedule of The Force Awakens.

The changes weren’t the only complaint Daniels had regarding the film either. Back in 2015, the actor spoke to The Guardian about playing the famous droid again, and really touched his distaste of the scale of secrecy of the film:

"The secrecy has been beyond ludicrous. [...] For heaven's sake, it's a movie. When I got the script, it was typed in black on paper of the deepest red so you couldn't photocopy it. I got a hangover just reading it."

It was such a fun time seeing C-3PO and R2-D2 back on the big screen, but it did feel like their roles amounted to little more than fan service. Although his role was basically an extended cameo, Daniels still managed to get himself reprimanded by studio executives for mentioning another actor's name on social media:

"I said that I'd met so-and-so. An actor who plays a [...] thing in the film. A character. Immediately I received a message from Disney: 'Remove the tweet! You're not allowed to say that!' Honestly. It's a kind of Kremlin attitude. Look, I know perfectly well not to tell you now what I'm giving you for a Christmas present because it would spoil the surprise. And these films are all about opening the box on Christmas Day."

Luckily for Daniels, he is probably done with playing the role of C-3PO. It sounds like he’s ready to retire. But we will always have the movies he made, and despite his grumpiness, he created something really special with his portrayal of the beloved droid.
