Cailee Spaeny Reportedly in Talks to Play Kitty Pryde in Marvel's X-MEN Reboot After Rogue Rumors

It looks like Cailee Spaeny could be joining Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot after all, just not as the mutant fans originally expected. The Alien: Romulus star was previously rumored to be playing Rogue, but a new report claims she's actually in talks to take on the role of Kitty Pryde.

The latest casting rumor comes from industry insider MyTimeToShineHello, who initially claimed in a since-deleted X post that Spaeny had landed the role. However, the scooper quickly corrected the report, explaining, “Wait, sorry, I misunderstood the source. She’s in talks for Kitty Pryde. Not a done deal at all.”

So, nothing is official yet, but Spaeny would be a pretty great choice for Kitty Pryde, the fan-favorite mutant who can phase through solid objects. She's also an important member of the X-Men in Marvel Comics, and it'll be interesting to see how the MCU handles her introduction.

However, anyone hoping for a major Kitty Pryde storyline in the first movie might want to keep their expectations in check. According to the same insider, the character isn't expected to have much screen time.

“Kitty Pryde and Beast only have small roles in the first movie. I guess this is part of why it’s so hard for them to close the deals.” The scooper also added, “Charles Melton is out as Beast.”

So, Marvel may be having trouble locking down actors for characters who won't have much to do in their first appearance. Of course, smaller roles in the initial film could potentially lead to bigger opportunities in future MCU projects.

Spaeny's rumored involvement is interesting because her name had previously been connected to Rogue. Fans had been floating the actress as a possible choice for the character, but Marvel has since confirmed Inde Navarrette, known for Obsession, will take on that role.

Marvel officially revealed its X-Men cast during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event earlier this year. Along with Navarrette as Rogue, the movie will star Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Maya Boyd as Storm.

Adam Driver is also joining the mutant madness as the film's main villain, Nathaniel Milbury, better known as Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Gen V actor Asa Germann is reportedly in talks to play Warren Worthington III, aka Angel.

Jake Schreier, who directed Marvel's Thunderbolts*, is set to helm the upcoming reboot, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.

For now, Spaeny's potential casting as Kitty Pryde remains a rumor, and Marvel hasn't confirmed her involvement. Still, she's proven she can handle intense, character-driven roles, and bringing that energy to the MCU's mutant team could be a great fit.
