CALL OF CTHULHU STARTER SET Will Be Re-released For Game's 40th Anniversary June 27

To celebrate 40 years of trying to thwart demonic cults and elder gods’ nefarious plans, a revised and updated printing of the Call of Cthulhu starter set will be available on June 27. If you have wanted to get into the game but didn’t know where to start, this will be a great purchase for you. Inside are books, dice, premade character sheets, maps, and handouts you need for hours of bone chilling fun all inside a box with new art by Lin Hsiang.

The books include three softcover manuals broken into rules and scenarios. Each book will have updated interior cover designs and all errata and corrections which make this a good place to start for players brand new to the game and for veterans with older books who are looking to have all the updates in one place.

There are 4 different scenarios. One is a solo scenario to help you learn the game. “Alone Against the Flames” will have you play in a rural New England town of Emberhead trying desperately to escape. The other three scenarios are for 3-5 players and include:

Paper Chase: The search for a missing professor leads to a grizzly discovery.
Edge of Darkness: A group of investigators fulfill the wish of a dying friend, and attempt to undo the mistakes of the past.
Dead Man Stomp: Harlem and jazz music serve as a backdrop to the nefarious schemes of an alien god.

Each of these scenarios will come complete with maps, notes, and player handouts all in full color and essential for players. Also included are all the dice you need to play: D4, D6, D8, D20, percentile D10, and an extra D10 in a different color to be used as bonus/penalty die.

I recently ran a one shot of Call of Cthulhu and it was amazing. This box set is definitely something I will look forward to getting to make it easier for me to navigate the rules as well as for the scenarios for me to run for my group.
