CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE - Gameplay Footage and Impressions
I was very disappointed by Call of Duty: Ghosts, so Sledgehammer Games needed to do quite a bit to get me excited for the next iteration of one of gaming's most reputable franchises. I'm not entirely sold yet... the campaign seems entirely preposterous and we haven't seen how the exoskeletons and their many features will factor into multiplayer.
I always joked that a Call of Duty "Future Warfare" game was inevitable seeing that Modern Warfare was an absolute hit. Aside from the slight variation in name, it's pretty spot on. The game takes place in 2054 but it looks like it takes place in 2500. The world looks completely different. Here's the demo:
As you can see, the Call of Duty vibe is still very much prevalent. You are still running and gunning and the shit is almost certainly hitting the proverbial fan around you. Tanks to your left and right and fellow soldiers getting annihilated — it is absolutely chaotic urban warfare.
The exoskeleton seems to play a pivotal role throughout. These exoskeletons make me think of Elysium more so than Edge of Tomorrow. They are fitted to the frame of the soldiers body. But as you can see in the video above there are heavy suits. The booster feature is very cool, allowing you the ability to double jump and slow your free fall. One of my favorite parts in the video above is when you encounter a drone swarm (so incredibly different from the "swarms" we saw in Black Ops II) and then precede to rip off a car door and use it as a makeshift riot shield. I also really loved the cycle grenade. We only saw two features (radar and homing) but I would guess there are many more. Out of all the guns shown my favorite by far was the "force" gun not unlike the guns they used in Minority Report.
XBOX owners will get add on content first when Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare releases on November 4, 2014
