Cameron Diaz to Un-Retire From Acting in Netflix Action Comedy BACK IN ACTION Opposite Jamie Foxx
Cameron Diaz (There’s Something About Mary, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Charlie’s Angels) has announced that she is un-retiring from acting to join Jamie Foxx (Ray, Collateral, Spider-Man: No Way Home) in the action comedy Back In Action at Netflix. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have to admit that I don’t remember Diaz announcing her retirement. I know she became a mom a couple of years ago, so that felt like the natural reason we hadn’t seen her in a bit, but I didn’t know it was official. No matter, though, because she is back.
The storyline for the action-comedy is being kept under wraps, but Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) is directing from a script he wrote with Brendan O’Brien (Neighbors). Beau Bauman (Central Intelligence) is producing for Good One Productions alongside Gordon for Exhibit A, with Foxx, Datari Turner, O’Brien and Mark McNair exec producing.
Foxx teased the new project this morning on Twitter via an audio clip of a phone conversation with Diaz, who confesses that she’s “so excited” yet “anxious” about getting back into acting. Says Diaz, “I don’t know how to do this, you know?” Foxx then brought in an expert on retiring and un-retiring, none other than the great NFL icon, Tom Brady, who gave Diaz a little pep talk.
