Cancelled PRINCE OF PERSIA Remake Leaves Voice Actress Devastated After Three Years of Work

The sudden cancellation of a long-gestating remake has left one of its key creative contributors heartbroken. Canadian-Pakistani voice actress Eman Ayaz, who was reportedly cast as Farah in the now-scrapped Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, has opened up about the emotional toll of losing a project she devoted years of her life to.

In an emotional YouTube video, Ayaz shared how the role became a defining chapter in her career. What started with a demanding audition process slowly turned into a multi-year commitment filled with creative growth, close collaboration, and real personal sacrifice. For three years, she stayed quiet, waiting for the moment she could finally talk about the project publicly.

“Three years ago, I booked a life-changing role on a life-changing project. It was a rigorous audition process, including a self-tape audition, an in-person callback, and a chemistry read that I had to fly out of the city for.

"I’ve spent the last three years getting to know the team, which has become like a family to me. I’ve watched the project grow through countless stages of development, and I waited and waited for it to finally be released so I could talk about it,” Eman said.

What made the situation even more crushing was how she learned the news. There was no call, no email, no heads-up from the studio. Instead, she found out the same way fans did.

“This week, I found out through the internet that the project was canceled. I was in total shock. Just two months ago, I filmed marketing for this project, and everything had been running smoothly.

“That was the last I had heard. We were all looking forward to it being released this year, so it felt like emotional whiplash to suddenly find out in such a random way,” she said.

Ayaz never directly named the game, citing a strict NDA, but the dots weren’t hard to connect. A repost on X referencing Prince of Persia, paired with the timing of Ubisoft’s announcement, made it clear what she was talking about. Fans quickly picked up on it too, amplifying her story and sending messages of support across social media.

She closed out her 11-minute video with a raw tribute to the people behind the scenes who poured themselves into the remake, even if players never get to experience it.

“This project existed, even if the world never got to see it. So many talented artists devoted countless hours to making it happen, and that doesn’t just disappear. It will live on in our hearts forever, as fricking corny as that sounds. The only way these stories survive is if the audience demands them.”

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is still considered one of the most influential action-adventure games ever made. Ubisoft had repeatedly reassured fans that the remake was on track, with updates pointing toward a release this year.

Instead, the project became another casualty of major internal restructuring at Ubisoft. The publisher recently confirmed widespread layoffs, the closure of two studios, and the cancellation of five additional projects as part of aggressive cost-cutting measures. The fallout was immediate, with company shares reportedly dropping by a staggering 40%.

For Ayaz, that’s a rough situation to be put in. After three years of silence, work, dedication, and belief in the project, that loss has to cut deep.
