Cancelled Series STAR TREK: PRODIGY Finds a New Home at Netflix
This summer, Paramount+ revealed that they were canceling their animated series Star Trek: Prodigy after only one season. The second season had been made, but was not getting released by the streamer, much to the chagrin of fans. But Netflix has swooped in to save the day, announcing that they will take over the series, releasing its first season later this year, and the never-before-seen Season 2 sometime in 2024.
A statement from executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman reads:
“Thank you to our incredible Star Trek: Prodigy fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together. We set out to inspire you, but you inspired us. The team is still hard at work on the second season, and we can’t wait to share it with the amazing fans around the world.”
Per its official logline, the younger-skewing animated series “follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered — a first in the history of the Star Trek franchise — but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.”
Star Trek: Prodigy‘s primary voice cast includes Kate Mulgrew as Admiral Janeway, Brett Gray as Dal, Ella Purnell as Gwyn, Rylee Alazraqui as Rok-Tahk, Angus Imrie as Zero, Jason Mantzoukas as Jankom Pog, Dee Bradley Baker as Murf, John Noble as The Diviner and Jimmi Simpson as Drednok.
Recurring voices include Daveed Diggs as Commander Tysess, Jameela Jamil as Ensign Asencia, Jason Alexander as Doctor Noum, Robert Beltran as Captain Chakotay and Billy Campbell as Thadiun Okona.
