Captain America and Black Widow Confirmed to Have a Bigger Role in AVENGERS 4
We've already heard that the characters that didn't get a lot of screentime in Avengers: Infinity War would have a much bigger role in Avengers 4. I assumed that would heavily include Ant-Man, The Wasp, Hawkeye, and Captain Marvel. But according to screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Captain America and Black Widow will also have a big role in the story.
While talking to The New York Times, the writers shared that Marvel Studios didn’t really tell them which characters needed to take the lead in the film or where any particular story arc needed to go. Markus explained, "we’re never writing without knowing where the end goes.” They went on to say that while Captain America and Black Widow mainly defend Earth in Infinity War, they "have a much bigger role to play in that second film." McFeely adds, "We gave ourselves license to pay off later."
Captain America was completely devastated at the end of Infinity War after Thanos snapped his fingers and he watched his best friend die. It's going to be interesting to see how that horrific event affects the surviving members of The Avengers. There's a lot of fan theories and speculation about how the events of Avengers 4 will play out and how they will attempt to fix or undo what Thanos had done, but until Marvel actually starts releasing some official details, nothing is set in stone. This vague plot summary doesn't offer much, but it's a little something:
"A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it."
I'm happy to hear that Cap and Black Widow will have a bigger role in Avengers 4. They are two of my favorite characters in the MCU, and it'll be great to see them in action again. Maybe this time Cap will sacrifice himself to save the universe.
