Captain America is Returning to the Side of Good in New Variant Cover by Alex Ross
If you haven’t been paying attention to the Marvel comic world lately, Steve Rogers has been, well, less than a good guy. He’s been acting a lot like the thing he swore to battle than the symbol of freedom. He tricked all the other heroes into either being locked out of planet earth without the key, or inside of New York City without a key, or just running in fear. But it looks like the cap who stands for the right is returning to his anti-Hydra days.
I have been a huge fan of Secret Empire and the story they’ve been able to tell with a kind of what if scenario come to life, of the Cap turning bad. Not totally evil, but just aligned to a different goal. It has been a great series that has a lot of commentary on current times. Even the moment we first see Cap hailing Hydra is a great moment. But some people are less than enthused about it. So it looks like Marvel is going back to what it does best. Kicking Hydra ass. And one person who will be helping him do that is Alex Ross.
Alex Ross is a comic book artist who has had a lot of experience with awesome heroic imagery of Americanism. He did some amazing variant cover work for the upcoming triumphant return of the classic heroic Cap. Marvel announced that the Steve Rogers that won our hearts is returning full force with artist Chris Samnee and Mark Waid. Ross has done a great job at creating an image that truly shows pride and what we love about the Cap.
The image references a classic cover by Bob Layton’s run of Iron Man, which shows Tony Stark returning to form after a bad bout of alcoholism. The variant shows Cap also returning to form, in all his majesty. It really is pretty fantastic, and will give us hope for the future of Cap. Check out the cover next to the one it's referencing below.
