CAPTAIN MARVEL Almost Played a Big Part in JESSICA JONES

Before Jessica Jones found its way to Netflix it was set up at ABC under the name AKA Jessica Jones. If it had wound up there, it would have been a completely different series than what it became. One of the big differences would have been the inclusion of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. The two characters were friends in the Alias comic book series, so it would have made sense to see them together.

In a recent interview with IGN, Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg talked about how Captain Marvel would have been involved with the series, and it would have pretty much been the exact same character from the comic:

"Back when it was at ABC Network, I did use Carol Danvers. But between then and when it ended up on Netflix, you know, the MCU shifted, and it also shifted away from the universe in the [comic] book. So in the book, the powers are very out in the open and the themes of that are about ‘the other,’ and in the cinematic universe that’s not the mythology. So there was a lot that I had to move away from, just in terms of sheer plot, and Carol Danvers got her own movie."

It actually sounds like it would have been really fun to see Captain Marvel and Jessica Jones in the series together. Things obviously changed, though, and Danvers was replaced by Trish Walker, who is also known as Patsy Walker/Hellcat in the comics. Rosenberg explained how this was a more appropriate direction for the series:

"But as it turned out, Patsy Walker ended up being an incredibly—a much more appropriate fit with Jessica. It was better that her best friend was not someone with powers. It actually ends up being a really great mirror for her."

Who knows, maybe somewhere down the line after Captain Marvel is introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe the two characters will get some screentime together.

Jessica Jones is currently streaming on Netflex, and so far, I've enjoyed what I've seen!
