Captain Marvel Rumored to Play a Major Role in Marvel's AVENGERS: SECRET WARS

There’s still a ton we don’t know about Marvel Studios’ next two Avengers movies, and that mystery is part of the fun. But a new rumor teases a surprising character who could be coming in Avengers: Secret Wars, and it’s one of the MCU’s most powerful heroes.

According to insider reports, Captain Marvel could end up being a key player in the Multiverse Saga finale.

Right now, the cast for Avengers: Doomsday still feels incomplete. Marvel hasn’t revealed a second wave of actors, which means we’re probably not getting the full roster until the movie actually hits theaters.

One name that’s been noticeably absent is Brie Larson, whose Carol Danvers is easily one of the most powerful characters in the MCU. That power level has always made her tricky to slot into ensemble stories, but her connection to the Avengers has already been established, especially following Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Back in 2019, Captain Marvel soared past the $1 billion mark at the global box office. Fast forward to 2023, and The Marvels didn’t land nearly as well commercially, which raised some real questions about Larson’s future as the character.

Whether or not she gets another solo outing seems uncertain, but these Avengers films could give her story a fresh direction.

Insider @MyTimeToShineH claims, "Captain Marvel will have a big role in Secret Wars." That opens the door to all kinds of possibilities, especially with Doctor Doom reportedly shaping Battleworld. Carol could appear as we know her, or Marvel might remix her character entirely depending on how that reality functions.

Meanwhile, The Marvels left a pretty big thread dangling. Monica Rambeau ended up trapped in another universe, one that appears to include the X-Men. That moment seemed like a clear setup for bridging worlds and bringing major characters together in Avengers: Doomsday.

Still, neither Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, nor Larson were included in the initial cast reveal, which feels like a strange omission considering how important their characters could be moving forward.

Captain Marvel’s journey in the MCU hasn’t exactly been smooth. From her revised ‘90s origin to the reworked Kree/Skrull conflict, Marvel has taken some big swings with the character. Outside of her assist in Avengers: Endgame, she’s mostly stayed off Earth, which has kept her disconnected from the core team in a lot of ways.

Larson herself hasn’t offered much clarity either. When asked about her involvement during The Super Mario Galaxy Movie premiere, she kept things locked down, saying, "Oh, you know I can’t talk about that," followed by, "Nice try."

As for Avengers: Secret Wars, the confirmed lineup is already packed. Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom, alongside Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, and Hayley Atwell.

The Fantastic Four crew is also stepping in, with Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, plus Sadie Sink joining the mix.

The Russo Brothers are back in the director’s chairs for both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, working from a script by Stephen McFeely, with Michael Waldron helping shape the story.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, while Avengers: Secret Wars arrives on December 17, 2027.
