CAPTAIN MARVEL Will Be Directed by Indie Filmmakers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck

At long last, we know who is officially directing Captain Marvel! The studio has hired Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck to bring Captain Marvel's story to the big screen. They are a directing team that has worked on a couple indie film projects that include Ryan Gosling’s Half Nelson and Ryan ReynoldsMississippi Grind, both of which were great character driven films.

I know they aren't big popular mainstream directors, but after directing a movie like Captain Marvel... they will be. I don't know if you're familiar with their work, but I think they will do a great job developing this character in the MCU.

Marvel met with a ton of directors for the gig, and in the end, they chose a directing team that was never mentioned prior to this announcement. I love a good surprise.

The movie is being written by Inside Out scribe Meg LeFauve and Guardians of the Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman. All we know about the film at this point in that it will follow Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), "an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight."

Captain Marvel is set to be released in 2019.
