CARRIE Teaser Trailer Unleashes Mike Flanagan’s Chilling New Vision of Stephen King’s Horror Classic
Mike Flanagan has built a reputation for delivering horror that gets under your skin. From The Haunting of Hill House to Midnight Mass, he's proven time and time again that he knows how to tell stories that are unsettling, emotional, and unforgettable.
He's also no stranger to adapting Stephen King, which made it especially exciting when Amazon announced that his first project under its studio deal would be a new series based on King's very first published novel, Carrie.
Now we've finally gotten our first real look at the series. During his first-ever appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Flanagan introduced the debut teaser trailer for Carrie, giving fans a glimpse at his new interpretation of the iconic story.
While Carrie has already been brought to the screen several times, including Brian De Palma's legendary 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek, Flanagan has made it clear from the beginning that he isn't interested in simply revisiting familiar ground. This series is designed to offer a fresh perspective on King's classic nightmare.
The teaser hints at the emotional misery of high school alongside the supernatural terror that's about to erupt, offering an eerie preview of what's in store.
This new adaptation stars Summer Howell as Carrie White, a lonely teenager who's relentlessly bullied at school while struggling under the oppressive control of her deeply troubled mother.
As if surviving high school wasn't difficult enough, Carrie also begins discovering terrifying telekinetic abilities that threaten to explode when she's pushed too far.
Joining Howell is Samantha Sloyan as Carrie's fanatically religious mother, Margaret White. Siena Agudong plays Sue Snell, one of Carrie's classmates who shows her kindness, while Alison Thornton takes on the role of Carrie's cruel tormentor, Chris Hargensen.
The supporting cast also includes Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.
Flanagan was also joined on stage by members of the cast during the Comic-Con panel, where they shared stories from making the series before attendees got an exclusive look at the footage.
This version of Carrie looks like it's leaning hard into both the emotional pain and supernatural horror that made King's novel such a classic in the first place.
Flanagan has repeatedly shown that he's at his best when horror is rooted in deeply human characters, and Carrie feels like the perfect story for that approach.
Fans won't have to wait much longer to see how it all comes together. Carrie premieres on Prime Video on October 7.
