CASINO ROYALE Director Martin Campbell Set To Helm TREASURE OF ALI BABA & THE 40 THIEVES
Director Martin Campbell (Golden Eye, Casino Royale, Green Lantern) has signed on to helm the adventure film, Treasure of Ali Baba & The 40 Thieves. The story will be adapted from 1,001 Arabian Nights Tales. Here's the synopsis for the film that was posted by Deadline:
An adventure novelist gets caught up in a global conspiracy and a hunt for a mysterious antiquity after discovering that his father had a map to the legendary treasure of Ali Baba. He must team up with a brilliant cartographer to locate the artifacts before they fall into the hands of the 40 Thieves—an ancient group who has quietly become a powerful, international syndicate of criminals in high-ranking corporate positions.
This sounds like a lot of fun! It's kind of got an Indiana Jones flair to it and I'm kinda a sucker for these adventure stories that revolve around ancient treasures and archeological discoveries. When talking about the project, Campbell said:
“This is a great opportunity to do something with international appeal and huge franchise potential. I want this to be my Indiana Jones.”
Campbell is looking at directing the movie after he's done with the feature film adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's Across the River and Into the Trees with Pierce Brosnan. The next film he has coming out is Jakie Chan's revenge thriller The Foreigner, which looks amazing!
I really hope that he can take Treasure of Ali Baba & The 40 Thieves and turn it into an epic great adventure film with franchise potential because it has the potential.
