Casting Is Reportedly Underway for Marvel’s X-MEN Reboot

It sounds like Marvel Studios is finally kicking things into gear for its highly anticipated X-Men reboot. We’re hearing that the casting process has officially begun, and fans won’t have to wait much longer to see which actors will bring this new era of mutants to life in the MCU.

Michael Lesslie is currently working on the script, and while there’s a good chance another writer could hop on board later, Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier has already been locked in to helm the film.

While there’s still some ambiguity about how far along the project is, reliable insider Jeff Sneider shared on The Hot Mic that casting is already underway.

There have been several names floating around the rumor mill for months now. Triangle of Sadness star Harris Dickinson, Margaret Qualley, and Julia Butters have all reportedly been considered for key roles like Cyclops, Rogue, and Kitty Pryde.

There’s also talk that Hunter Schafer is in the mix for Mystique, Ayo Edebiri for Storm, and Javier Bardem as the potential new Mr. Sinister. None of these have been confirmed yet.

That’s exactly what Schreier is aiming for. When asked if Marvel’s version of the X-Men will look and feel different from the past movies, he didn’t hesitate.

“Yeah, I think that’s fair to say. There’s that red sniper dot out there somewhere, you know. But to be able to explore all of the ideas that are inherent to that rich source material, but also at the scale inherent to the source material, that’s like a very rare and fortunate opportunity. That’s very exciting.”

He also explained why this reboot is such a big deal creatively.

“What I can say is, it’s just inherently interesting and complex material… The core idea of what ‘X-Men’ is involves complexity. It’s an incredible opportunity with super interesting characters and [much] internal conflict. These characters are wrestling with their identity and place in the world—that’s inherently interesting and complex material.”

X-Men fans hoping for something fresh are definitely getting it. Kevin Feige already teased that this version of the X-Men will be a “youth-focused reboot,” suggesting that the new cast and tone will reflect a more modern, coming-of-age perspective that breaks away from the tone of the Hugh Jackman-led saga.

We’re still waiting on official casting news, but keep your eyes peeled, because it won’t be long before Marvel unveils its next generation of mutants.
