CATAN Expansions Go 3D, Prehistoric, and Have a World Championship
Asmodee and CATAN Studio recently announced some new plans for the beloved board game. First, there’s the 3D Expansion – Seafarers + Cities & Knights which takes the two most popular expansions for the game and brings them into the world of 3D to go along with your Catan 3D game. Both expansions are included in one box with 363 individual pieces. These include hand-painted terrain tiles and antiqued player figures to really make your game pop. With all the work that goes into this, it shouldn’t be terribly surprising to learn that this box will have a price tag of $399.99.
The other big announcement is a reboot of Settlers of the Stone Age into Catan – Dawn of Humankind. In this game, players start in the prehistoric era and try their hand at being the first humans. Dawn of Humankind was designed by Klau Teuber and his son Benjamin with new mechanics for this standalone game in the Pleistocene era. You’ll be able to play starting October 1 when the game launches at Target and hobby stores.
A third announcement made was for the 2022 Catan World Championship. The world’s best Catan players are invited to Valletta, Malta November 18-20 to participate and compete for a trophy and bragging rights. If interested, you must qualify for the National Championship and you can find your local qualifier tournaments on Facebook or the official website.
