Cate Blanchette Plays a Renegade Nun in Trailer For The 1940s Set Australian Drama THE NEW BOY

Roadside Films has released the trailer for an upcoming 1940s set drama The New Boy, which is set in Australia. The movie stars Cate Blanchette as a renegade nun who watches over a nine-year-old Aboriginal orphan boy who arrives in the dead of night at a remote monastery.

The synopsis says that “the boy's presence disturbs the delicately balanced world in this story of spiritual struggle and the cost of survival.”

The movie was directed by Warwick Thornton and it looks like a beautifully made film. I’m not quite sure what is going on in the story, but it looks somewhat intriguing. Blanchette called it a “startling story.”

The director talked about the film saying: “The idea for the story of this little boy has been flickering in my imagination for a long time. Kath and I are beyond excited to be working with Cate and the Dirty Films mob to put him up on the big screen where he belongs.”

The movie also stars Aswan Reid as the boy, Deborah Mailman, and Wayne Blair. Roadside Films will release the film starting on July 6th, 2023.
