Catherine Zeta-Jones Is Set to Star in Disney+'s NATIONAL TREASURE Series
Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to star alongside Lisette Alexis in the upcoming Disney+ adventure series National Treasure, which is based on the film franchise.
The series is an expansion of the National Treasure films, and the story is “told from the point of view of young heroine Jess (Alexis) — a DREAMer in search of answers about her family — who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about the past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.”
Zeta-Jones will take on the role of Billie, “a badass billionaire, black-market antiquities expert, and treasure hunter who lives by her own code. She transformed herself from a penniless orphan to a shrewd, stylish businesswoman and adventurer. Billie’s used to getting what she wants—and she wants the Pan-American treasure. But not just for the money. This treasure has deeper stakes for her.”
The series is being executive produced by the franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Jon Turteltaub, and writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley. The pilot episode of was written by the Wibberleys and will be directed by Mira Nair.
Production on the series is set to begin this month in Baton Rouge. I’ve enjoyed the films in the National Treasure franchise, and I hope that this series ends up being just as silly and fun. Zeta-Jones will certainly make a great addition to the project.
